All it took to convince Kristin Lessley and Jon Roy to tie the knot on December 12, 2012 was the promise of beer and a $300 donation to the Humane Society.
The Maple Falls couple, who have been together for seven years, didn’t have any intention of getting married, but according to Roy the offer from their friends was a good deal. “We like dogs and we like beer,” he said, “So, why not?”
The couple had only two and a half weeks to put their nuptials together, and took advantage of the North Fork Brewery’s wedding chapel for their event. Even in that short amount of time, they managed to gather a number of family and friends to pack the chapel, including Jon’s mother from Massachusetts.
Brewery owner Vicki Savage performed the ceremony, and the couples kissed to cheers of “Finally!” from the crowd.
Nine couples were either married or renewed their vows at the North Fork Brewery on December 12, 2012.
The next time the numerals of the month, day and year will all be the same will be in 88 years on January 1, 2101.
