"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue."
This well-known phrase is part of an age-old tradition meant to bring luck to the bride in her marriage. According to The Knot, "something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity."
We love the sweetness and simplicity of this tradition, and we want to share some of our favorite ideas with you.
It's easy to incorporate tradition into your wedding day, even if you're having a chic, modern wedding. Just think about the details like your grandmother's pearls, a bit of lace from your mother's gown, heirloom earrings, an antique ring … the options are endless! Here's one way that you can truly make that "something old" your very own:
Are you a great cook, a food lover, or would you like to add an extra touch of tradition to your wedding? Ask your guests for recipes! This common addition to bridal showers and weddings allows guests to pass on their favorite family traditions, and may help you start some of your own!
Include a recipe card in your invitations or bring some along to your bridal shower. If they can't attend, ask them to mail in their recipe anyway. This is a great way of adding a truly personal touch to your invitations. You can even use them as a part of your guestbook!
Here's a handy printable for you. Each double-sided sheet contains four 3"x5" cards!
We can't wait to see you at the Skagit Wedding Show at Swinomish Casino and Lodge in Anacortes this Sunday!
Watch this adorable bride tell us why it's worth it to attend a wedding show.

Bridal shows are a fantastic source of information. Whether you want to know what's on trend in bridal gowns this year, or if there's anyone that can create the cake of your dreams, there will be someone that can answer your question. Wedding professionals in all specialties display their work so you can get a taste of what they offer and if it works for your style, which makes the shows great timesavers in your wedding planning process.
