Q & A with E.J. Harris

How did you get into photography?

I got into photography in college while studying to be a journalist. I had taken some photography classes before studying journalism, but once I started studying photojournalism I knew I was going to be a photographer.

Tell us why you started photographing weddings.

I started shooting weddings for family and friends. People I knew would need someone to shoot their wedding and they knew the quality of my work as a journalist and they just put two and two together.

What is your favorite part of photographing weddings?

My favorite part about shooting weddings is finding those real, unstaged moments and capturing them for my clients. And since weddings are emotionally supercharged events, I pretty much just love all of it.

What is different about your photography than others?

I spent 16 years working as an award-winning photojournalist in a small town in Eastern Oregon and my style heavily relies on documentary photography.

What is your favorite wedding memory?

I got to shoot a wedding that took place on the top of a mountain. The entire wedding party and guests had to hike up a trail through the clouds to get to the meadow where the ceremony was going to take place. It was so different, and so cool.
