Q & A with Kate Fadden
What made you get into real estate?
Real estate has always been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember … my dad is an architect, so I developed a love for homes and design early on. My husband and I built our first home together here in Bellingham 15 years ago, then a few years later we bought our first investment home. We’ve since sold and bought again, acquired another investment home, did a full remodel and it was then that I knew I had to become a Realtor, because I have so much passion around the industry.
What advice would you give first home buyers?
First and foremost, find a Realtor that you click with, someone you trust and who has experience in working with first time buyers. Second, shop around for the right mortgage lender. There are so many options and programs for first time buyers so you want to make sure you are getting the best deal and option for your needs and desires. Once you have your team in place, you will want to have a clear idea of what you are looking for including price range, location, type of home, etc. This is an area that your Realtor should help you dial in on, and as you begin to go see homes, you’ll be able to refine your requirements more and more, which will ultimately help you find your perfect home, sweet home!
What services does John L Scott offer buyers?
John L. Scott was originally started right here in Washington over 80 years ago, so their roots run deep, which I love. JLS has incredible tools for it’s clients, whether you are buying or selling or both. We have an incredible app, which updates faster from the NWMLS than any other real estate app (download here: jlsapp.com/katefadden). Our Bellingham office is located in Barkley Village, which is so central to Whatcom County. Our brokerage even has a community moving truck that is free for our clients, schools and non-profits to use anytime! JLS also provides so much support, education and resources to it’s Realtors, which enables me to offer top tier service to every one of my clients. I also love that one of JLS’s missions is to live life as a contribution. Every time I have a transaction close, I get to donate a part of my paycheck to the John L. Scott Foundation, which goes right back into our local community benefiting children’s healthcare.
What is unique about you as real estate agent?
For me, my number one goal every time I work with a client is to adopt their goals as my own. The home buying and selling process is not about me. It’s about the people I work with, and in order to deliver the highest level of service, I take on their goals as my own. My strengths are my attention to detail (and there are a LOT of details in the real estate world!), my proactive communication and transparency with my clients as well as anyone else involved in the transaction, and my desire to create a long lasting relationship with each of my clients. I truly believe in order to have a smooth and successful transaction, you have to have a solid relationship with your clients.
What advice would you give a couple getting married?
Communicate and make sure you both are on the same page with whatever you are doing. Whether it’s planning your wedding, or buying a house – or both – communicate often and keep an open mind. Home buying and selling can be a very emotional process (just like getting married!) so having open and frequent communication with each other can really go a long way in making the experience enjoyable and successful.
